We struggle to pay bills because my wife can’t work during her cancer treatmentMay 13, 2019
DEAR DEIDRE: MY wife’s cancer diagnosis has left us both so scared. We have been together for 26 years. I am 47, she is 46.
Our daughter, who is 24, gets married six months from now. My wife was very involved in the wedding planning and tried to ignore her symptoms but eventually she went to see her doctor.
Tests showed advanced stomach cancer and they began treatment straight away.
She is having chemotherapy and hopes to be OK for the wedding.
But she can’t work and we are struggling financially.
We have talked about it but there are areas where I do not want to go.

DEIDRE SAYS: It must be very distressing but be careful you are not both putting up barriers for fear of distressing each other.
Above all, tell your wife how much you love her. Financial problems are often a sad side-effect of a cancer diagnosis.
Tell any creditors what is happening so they will be understanding.
