WINTERWATCH is returning to BBC Two for its seventh series.

But where is the spectacular show filmed? Let’s have a look…

Winterwatch with Michaela Strachan is back for a seventh series

Where is Winterwatch filmed?

For 2019 the Winterwatch team will be heading to the Scottish Highlands to follow local wildlife through the harshest of seasons.

Setting up base in the wilds of the Cairngorms, the UK’s largest National Park, across four days, there is plenty to try and capture on camera.

Speaking about this stunning location, presenter Michaela Strachan said: “I’m so excited to be going to the Cairngorms.

“The wildlife always delivers – from mountain hare and wildcat to pine marten and red squirrel.

“The Highlands have a wonderful diversity of wildlife and habitats. It’s one of those places in the UK where you can really connect with the natural environment.”

Where will the Winterwatch studio be?

The Winterwatch studio will be based at The Dell of Abernethy, a lodge built in 1780 which sits on the edge of the Abernethy Caledonian pine forest.

It is perfectly placed to link viewers to the whole of the Cairngorms.

From here, the team will be able to showcase the whole region, seeking out the wildlife that thrives in this challenging habitat, and looking at the people and projects working to conserve it.

Will the Cairngorm be the same location for Springwatch and Autumnwatch?

The answer is yes, they will be at the Cairngorm for the rest of the year.

2019 will also be only the second time that the team will be returning to the same location for Springwatch and Autumnwatch.

This is because they want to to see how species and individual animals cope over the course of the year.

The Cairngorms are home to some of the most revered and rare wildlife in the UK – and The Watches will follow that life as the seasons change, unravelling exactly what it takes to survive in this great Scottish wilderness.

When is Winterwatch on?

The seventh series of Winterwatch starts TONIGHT (Tuesday January 29, 2019) at 8pm.

There will be four episodes in total – all on BBC Two.

If you miss any, you can catch them on the BBC iPlayer.
