CHELSEA’S top transfer priority this month is to wrap up a six-month loan deal for Gonzalo Higuain.

The Blues are desperately looking for a striker to provide a cutting edge for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

And the Premier League club is now locked in complicated negotiations with Juventus and AC Milan over the Argentine international.

Higuain, 31, is spending the season on loan at the San Siro from Juve which means both clubs need to be consulted in the deal.

However Chelsea believe a short-term transfer for the forward will be completed this month.

While there have been other players in different positions linked with a move to West London, the club have made the capture of Higuain their number one priority.

It would see the forward re-united with Sarri – his manager when he was scoring for fun at Napoli.

Higuain scored 71 goals in 104 league appearances for the club under Sarri before hje was flogged to Juventus for £77.9million in 2016.

But now the Chelsea boss looks set to be delivered the goalscorer to work with for a second time with the club hoping he can be just as clinical in the Premier League.

Chelsea’s title challenge has fallen away largely because they have lacked a cutting edge to their play this season.

Alvaro Morata has netted just five times so far with Olivier Giroud only contributing once in the league.

That has left Sarri being forced to play Eden Hazard as a false number nine as Chelsea stuttered and now face a battle to secure a top four finish.
