DEAR DEIDRE: FOR more than five years my husband and I have been trying for children. I am so worried we may never be able to have them.
He is 30 and I am 27. We are having tests to find out what the problem might be.
People tell me IVF would be the answer but I have a child already from a previous relationship so I don’t think I would qualify.
I get so down about it every month when I discover I am not pregnant after all.
We would so like to have a baby of our own.
DEIDRE SAYS: Get the test results then talk to your doctor again and ask if you can be referred to a fertility clinic.
Don’t assume that you would not fulfil the criteria – and there may be treatment for one or both of you that would make the difference without going down the IVF road.
